So it’s a lesson free day at school and I’m just catching up with all my work, and so i decided that ill listen to some music i don’t know the lyrics to because ill concentrate more. Well somehow i lied to myself because one of his most renowned songs ( 1-800-250-273-8255). I found it so inspirational and beautiful, that i was like, i need to listen to this whole album and so here I am. This album is made for and about everybody.
Hallelujah:
This is the first song on the album and i have to admit i don’t listen to often, unless i’m listening to the full album in order. However i’m still going to analyse this song as it is still great but is a song that is more likely to grow on me. The into to this song is quite repetitive and can start getting a bit boring after 1 minute 30. Then the song gets more interesting . The chorus of the song is “i’m like hallelujah, praise god, almighty, most high alpha and omega in the sky.” This implies some certain religious views that logic may have, but after seconds of searching genius it became clear that he was talking not only from his religious view points ( believing there is something greater out there) but other peoples religious view points. An idea that becomes sort of the albums motif is a thesis that we all share the same soul and we cannot reach the after life until we have become everyone. So therefore all the things of love that we do are done to ourselves and the evil and painful actions we make are again done to ourselves. Logic claims this isn’t what he believes but he likes the concept of it.
A lot of this album can be seen as autobiographical as Logic talks about the struggles of being biracial but not just that, the struggles of looking whiter than he was. In this song he says ” World want to tell me what i ain’t”. Many people have told him that his struggles weren’t real and he isn’t black and so he is talking about how people are always down on him, but logic has expressed that he is over the haters.
He then has a speech at the end basically expressing his hope for world peace and telling the listener that everyone is equal no matter what, race, gender , religion or sexual orientation. The song ends with a skit between “god” and a man named atom who has just died. “God’ tells atom that he is dead and it was his time.” but i suggest if you want to know more you listen to this song.
Everybody:
Is the first ‘hype’ song on the album and the meaning is really in the name. The first verse is basically Logic starting his telling of his story and talks about how ran around with guns and bad things but he begins to speak to his younger self when he says “run mothafucker, run before the pope get the gun” . He is saying to himself run from this life that you feel like you are confined in. An amazing line in this song is “body of a builder but mind of a foetus.” Logic is calling out those people who act all big and are supposed to be mature adults but can even comprehend the idea of equality and so the just have the mind set of un developed child who just can’t grasp things that are seemingly natural. This is my own interpretation of the line and so i could be wrong but this seems like a likely explanation. The chorus is AMAZING because it gets across such a simple message that some many people just aren’t grasping. He literally breaks down why we are all equal. He say ‘Everybody people, everybody bleed, everybody need something, everybody love.” We all do these things no matter how “different” form each other we are. We all need these things and we have them in common so what makes someone less important. NOTHING! Ok i promise this is the last line i will talk about but this is great. He references his biracial ethnicity is such a lyrical way by saying ” in my blood is the slave and the master”. He is white and black and so that reference to slavery was just like WOAH!
Confess:
This is the first collaboration on the album order and its with Killer Mike. Now i’m going to be honest, i have no idea who that is and i rarely listen to this son, but as i listen to it now my opinion may change. I can appreciate Logic’s flow on this track as it is impeccable. Although to understand this song i had to hop back on genius and this is where logic really takes on fictional characters. During the first verse he takes on the role of a man, repenting in church after he has looked back on his past actions and realised he isn’t a good person. Hence the name confess. The man/ logic continues and says ‘ i’m a dirty motherfucka, a waste of space”. Then he cries to the heavens in the chorus, “somebody save me, i need you to save me, to wash my sins on high.” Logic claims that he has met people like this, who struggle to come to terms with there actions and so he wrote about them and many more kinds of people on this album.
Killer mike then does the outro and he asks many questions that i’m sure we want answers to, like ” why did you put us here” and “why did you put us below these evil motherfuckers” as in, why do the rich, snobby elites get to have all the power and we are beneath them? All in all this song has brilliant meaning, but for me is easily forgettable. i cannot ignore Logics verses and Killer Mikes outro as they are just really good. I am heavily contradicting myself but this is how the song made me feel.
Killing Spree:
Surprisingly Ansel Elgort features on this track but I’m not angry about this, because I’m in love with his voice and verse. Killing spree is one of my favourite songs on this album and i consider its social media message to be really god for millennials who can’t be asked with the BLM movement or politics but can heavily relate to the influence of social media. Its start can be seen as very obscene, without context as the first line is ” ass, titties, pussy, money, weed” but then he goes on to say everywhere i look a killing spree. He is saying that people focus on materialistic things and all the items he listens above are things that you constantly see your social media and no one is focusing on the real life problems. Now the best line after this is “all the things they wanted me to be is everything that i like like like.” He is saying everyone expects him to be like is all the stuff he likes on instagram, twitter and what not. Logic admits he wishes he could disconnect from his phone more and this song isn’t pointing fingers but just saying that he wants to do it too. Another amazing line, ” blame it on a black, blame it one a white, blame in on a gun, blame it on a muslim, everyone wanna blame him, blame her just blame it on the motherfucker killing everyone.” Logic is saying we have a tendency to blame a whole race the something happens and it’s like stop pointing fingers when the person who did it is right i front of you. why are you making reasons to hate people who you consider are different you. Before i get to Ansels part i have to mention the line ” i wish they would love me like i like their pictures,” He is saying that people are getting validation form likes and again he is rapping from another perspective. People are so convinced that number of likes you have equal the amount of people who like or love you. This is a great play on words and so it had to be mentioned.
Ok finally Ansels part. Ansels vocals put you in a very reflective place, his voice is so strangely beautiful that you want to listen to what he has to say. He constantly sounds as if he is pouring his heart and soul into what he is singing. So when he sings ” come away with me, let me take you from this world of insanity, […] far away from flying bullets on this killing spree.” Social media hides us from the parts of the world we don’t want to see and so i interrupt this as Ansel personifying social media and talking to listen like come away from the terrible laity of this world and hide behind these fake lives that make you feel bad abut your own. This song is amazing and is a great listen. So if you don’t plan on listening to the whole thing then just listen to this, BECAUSE IT’S AMAZING!
Take it back:
This is another one of my favourite songs, and although the song itself is actually two minutes long with four minutes of spoken word, i absolutely adore it. The chorus is ‘take it back take it way back take it way way back to the first black man long before the white man could paint the black man with a gun in his hand. […] take it way way back to the first white man at the very moment when he looked around and said fuck it i’ma steal this land’ Logic is trying to get the listener to envision way back in history to a time where racism isn’t even a concept. He then goes to say ” everybody want to tell me what i am, what i am not, “you a motherfucking white boy”‘ i love this line as this is another reference to logics biracial ethnicity and he speaks about how people have always told him go your this and that and how each side of his race keep sending him to the others. The white people keep saying ‘”why you always talking about being black” skin too white’. I know i keep saying everything is my favourite line but this fully is. Just as he does on a previous one ‘everybody’ logic explains that he has too sides to him using the analogy of slavery. He says ‘ master deep down inside of me, the plantation deep down inside of me’. i think this is really clever and must give a lot of credit to Logic for doing that.
The rest of the song is the spoken word and i believe that its better to listen to it yourself than for me to review it. However the context is autobiographical and Logic just speaks about his struggles growing up, so it is key to listen to the lyrics and not just the really amazing beat.
America:
The song starts with a hard hitter, “motherfucker i’m real as shit and everything i’m talking about it real as real as shit.” before i analyse this i need to mention the effect used on logics voice, it sounds as if he is talking through a radio or something, but the sound is very faded. i like this as it is something different and really adds to the song. Anyway in this line logic is defending himself about what the story he has told us as people tend to brush off his rough past and claim it didn’t happen. The verse starts like ‘fight the power, fight for the right to say “fuck white power”‘. Logic references his distaste for Donald trump a lot in this song so he is telling everyone to unite and fight for what they believe in. He mocks Trump by saying ‘”make America great again” make everybody hate again’. he is saying that Donald is creating more hate not restoring the US to it’s one ‘great’ status.
I really appreciate world play in music so when Logic somewhat shades Kanye West for not condemning Trump he raps ‘ your music is 20/20 but your political views are blurred.’ he is basically saying Kanye’s music is amazing ( which i cannot deny) but politically he is obviously incapable of seeing that Trump is not a good political figure.
This song features black thought ,chuck d ,big lenbo and no id. Although i have no clue who they are their verses are amazing and for Logics first go at a slightly more political song, i think it is great.
Ink Blot:
Personally i am not a fan of Ink Blot featuring Juicy J, i just find it slightly boring to listen to, even though the lyrics are good, i just found it easy to float in and out of the song. However i think Juicy’s voice sounds great on the track , but i feel due to my lack of passion towards it i shouldn’t review it but just give my honest opinion.
Mos definitely:
Again another one i’m not a fan of but i can appreciate the speed of Logic’s flow because it is incredibley fast and cannot be denied but a certain line that stands up out to me is ‘”black people” just fight, fight for your your right, fight for your life.’ there is a lot of things happening in the world and so Logic is telling black people to stand up and fight for themselves in a time where the majority isn’t on their side.
Waiting room:
WARNING, this isn’t a song ,it is a skit and we go back to the characters of Atom and God. In this skit God tells atom he is in the waiting and and Atom wonders what he is waiting for. Within these three minutes Atom gets to ask God whatever he wants and Logic explores a new concept of what happens after we die between these two characters. Even if you don’t believe it, it is a fascinating concept and really allows this album to follow its motif of EVERYBODY.

This is such an important song in the movement for mental health awareness. The rawness in Logics voice is moving and his or his characters progression throughout the song is inspirational. This song is telephone call between someone calling a suicide hotline, and the title is the actual phone number allowing listeners experiencing similar feeling to find the strength to call. Logic goes from ” I don’t wanna be alive anymore” to ” I want you to be alive” to finally ” I finally wanna be alive” and the listener learns that it will all get better.
I’m not the hugest fan of Alesea Cara but I have to appreciate her vocals and lyrics on this song. They are beautiful and touching. The same goes for artist on the rise khalid and his tear jerking conclusion to the song.
This song is one of the best on the album and very encouraging and deserves a lot of awareness. Anziety:
No this is not a spelling mistake Logic and I decided to spell anxiety like this.
Lucy rose starts this song from the perspective of someone trying to convince themselves everything is fine ” everything is so fine, cause I’m good”. Her voice sounds vunerable and raw and this suggests she means something different to what she is singing. So that technique was really effective.
Logic discusses how no one feels comfortable discussing their mental health issues and so we feel like we are alone. Such as in the line “battling deperession but nobody wanna say shit.”
At the end of this song logic has a long speech than can not be described as anything but inspirational and beautiful. Logic speaks about a past experience where he experienced an anxiety attack. He speaks of how anziety not only affected him mentally but physically and the implications this had on him. A line I love is “I am a grown up who recognised that adults don’t really know shit, and they never did, and it scares me, cause now I’m an adult who doesn’t know shit”. None of us know everything and we all have to lear. At first Logic sounds disheartened like anxiety is going to beat him but then he finds strength and says ” I have anxiety, just like you, the person I wrote this for”. So the song lives up to the title of the album. Logic ends the song with hope that ” we will accept ourselves and live with anxiety”.
Black Spider-Man:
I absolutely adore this song and its meaning . Logic expresses his joy and pride in being biracial and his love for everyone. Like when he says ” im not ashamed to be white, I ain’t ashamed to black, I ain’t ashamed of my beautiful mexican wife.” He later says he doesn’t want to be black or white but ” a man today”. This is such an uplifting and unifying song with an amazing message.
He then says “maybe Jesus was black, maybe Jesus had dreads, spider man should be black” he is basically saying why can’t all these influential people be black or any race for that matter.
I love it when Daminen Lemar Hudson sings ” Black Spider-Man can u save a brother now”. Maybe this is a cry for help?
All in all I’m in love with this song, as I am with many songs on this album.
AfricAryaN:
Starts off with ” I feel the Aryan in my blood it’s scarier than a blood”( a gang in America). The beat sounds very electronic at first until the Drums and hi hats come in and layer the song. This enforces the lyrics that Logic is singing. This song is about Logics being bi racial and features J cole another bi racial artist. This song runs at a hefty 11 minutes but I have to say it’s an amazing 11 minutes filled with music and the conclusion to God and Atoms discussion as well as Kai and Thomas ( characters from his previous album).
Atom and God finish their conversion with Atom asking what advice God can give him on how to live his next life and God tells him to live his life and ” don’t waste your days on the negative energy of others.” He reminds him that he is more than his bank account and house because in the end everyone’s grave is six feet deep.
We then switch to Thomas and Kai who are walking and realise the album is over and then mention that they need more walking music and will queue for Logics next album, “his final one”. Logic announces through this song that his next album will infact be his last.
Finally we end with J. Coles verse, my favourite line is “I’ll never feel your approval till i accept my own”. Cole talks about accepting yourself and not caring about other people’s opinion. I love the change of beat and pace in coles part of the song as it’s quiet nature allows the listener to really focus in on the lyrics. An amazing thing about this part of the song is the fact that cole is telling Logics story but stops to give him some advice ” nigga, my advice, fuck the black and white shit”. He tells Lofi to stop caring about what either side says about him to to be himself. The song ends with cole saying ” find god, learn to accept yourself and I’m gone accept him.” The song then winds down and ends.
This album is inspirational and I believe will be a piviatal part of the movement of acceptantance. If you love rap and lyrics with meaning as well as current and relevant affairs. This album is something you need to listen to.
Thanks,
Sopexx
